Position Summary: In this role, you will develop and implement wide-ranging communications strategies for multi-billion-dollar analytical instruments businesses that build industry-leading electron microscopy and digital solutions to accelerate innovation and improve efficiency for our customers. Focused market areas include pharma, life sciences, materials science, and semiconductor.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications for Analytical Instruments, the Communications Director will own the development of a comprehensive communications strategy, including thought leadership topics, employee engagement activities, critical business priorities and business transformation initiatives.
As a well-rounded and expert communications professional, the ideal candidate will use leadership in executive communications, storytelling, and content development to connect colleagues, customers and the public to the company Mission and the business. In addition to being an integral Communications team member, you will sit on the business’s leadership teams to proactively develop tailored messaging and narratives and provide critical communications counsel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish integrated communications strategies aligned to key business and employee focus areas to increase awareness and drive employee engagement.
- Develop a compelling narrative to educate and influence external and internal audiences.
- Explore new ways to deliver communications creatively, efficiently, and practically by challenging current processes and recommending innovative approaches.
- Provide executive-level communications plans and materials for senior leadership, working proactively to anticipate needs, cultivate opportunities for employee engagement and develop compelling and tailored messaging for events and speaking opportunities.
- Provide guidance to senior-level executives on crisis scenarios as they arise.
- Develop a comprehensive, multi-channel/platform strategy for collecting and sharing thought leadership content and inspirational stories and measure its success.
- Partner with HR on organizational change communications initiatives, including developing business-level key messages, talking points, FAQs and other materials.
- Liaise with Corporate Change Communications on large-scale business transformation and M&A projects to develop key messages and assess audience impacts.
- Lead a team of communications and media relations professionals, helping to drive brand awareness and build preference for Thermo Fisher products, services and technologies.
- Empower, mentor and develop team members, as well as exert influence in a matrixed organization.
- Contribute to and participate in initiatives that support and align with the overall goals and focus areas of the Global Communications organization.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of communications experience in corporate communications, marketing communications or public relations.
- Experience in driving internal and external communications strategies, including change communications.
- Expert writer and editor.
- Strong verbal communicator with excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
- Extensive experience in partnering with senior executives and developing content in their voice and style.
- Combination of a strategic and creative problem-solver and hands-on tactician.
- Business sense and intellectual curiosity to learn about business strategies, competitive landscape and scientific technologies.
- Adaptable and comfortable working through organizational change.
- Can influence without direct authority.
- Can thrive in a large, fast-paced environment and keep multiple balls in the air, while prioritizing the most important activities.
- Experience with team leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $145,500.00–$213,400.00.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
