Position Summary

The Director of Culture and Inclusion will be instrumental in fulfilling Georgia Aquarium’s commitment to our strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Director of Culture and Inclusion will partner with other department leaders and the DEIB committee to lead organizational efforts to create more equitable and inclusive workplace and more broadly create a culture where all team members feel valued and respected at work. This position requires vision, strategic thinking, and operational skills to set goals and act in all aspects of culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. In coordination with senior leadership, the Director of Culture and Inclusion will be a key advocate for culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within Georgia Aquarium and the Zoological industry.

Responsibilities:

  1. Executes and collaborates on communication for culture and DEIB programs, policies, and guidelines to attract, retain, and grow a highly skilled and diverse workforce.
  2. Guides and advises on diversity matters such as inclusive recruitment strategies, access to training, succession planning and other key areas that guide retention and foster a positive diverse, internal talent environment.
  3. Provides thought leadership to enhance Georgia Aquarium’s employer brand as a “great place for diverse talent” by developing and managing strategic alliances with external talent partners.
  4. Partners with Organizational Development on creating trainings and other initiatives that creates and fosters an inclusive environment, instills cultural competency, and promotes inclusive behaviors across the organization and throughout leadership.
  5. Partners with Human Resources for employee relations, culture, and retention issues by providing key insights that fall within a diversity lens.
  6. Creates and implements a comprehensive system for regular monitoring and sharing of progress on key DEIB metrics that incorporates qualitative and quantitative data.
  7. Develops and recommends strategies, programs, and events to promote awareness of Georgia Aquarium’s culture, our shared values and beliefs, and highlights DEIB initiatives, celebrate diversity and inclusion, and encourage open dialogue on these topics within the organization.
  8. Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies and broad employee resource groups (ERGs) to foster the organizations diversity and inclusion efforts.
  9. Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  10. Drafts and disseminates DEIB-related communications and materials to all staff and make policy recommendations to HR for evaluation/incorporation in the employee handbook.
  11. Prepare reports, updates or other documents associated with DEIB strategies, projects, programs, or policies.
  12. Support engagement and retention initiatives from a DEIB perspective using the diversity and inclusion data from the annual employee engagement survey and ongoing departmental goals.
  13. Support efforts to ensure that the workplace and employment-related decisions are free of bias, harassment, and discrimination.
  14. Work with our senior leadership teams to ensure Georgia Aquarium is reaching diverse markets and ensure Georgia Aquarium creates and nurtures a diverse supply chain.
  15. Partner with our internal DEIB committee and provide direction that enhances our efforts to create more equitable, inclusive workplaces where all team members and guests feel valued, respected.
  16. Perform other duties as the business and workload necessitates.

Qualifications:

  1. 4-year degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years prior experience of professional human resources experience with an emphasis on culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging programs.
  1. Must have experience in developing, documenting, and maintaining Culture and/or DEIB scorecards/metrics.
  2. Must be able to effectively communicate both written and verbal, at all levels, both internally and externally of the business and can explain and discuss qualitative/quantitative data with organizational leaders concisely.
  3. Ability to develop key relationships with the other decision makers in the organization is essential. These people rely on the incumbent to provide them with accurate confidential information, various analytical data as well as appropriate Culture and DEIB advice and guidance in a timely manner.
  4. Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple work streams, tackle complex challenges, and perform to a high standard whilst working towards delivery on various business priorities.

  2. Well-developed problem analysis and resolutions skills.
  3. Above average ability to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines.
  4. Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.
