Commercial Design Intern

Job purpose

Furnitureland South is looking for a commercial design intern to assist in the design projects for contract and commercial clients. 

The ideal design intern will be a great fit for our energetic and creative team. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on challenging, meaningful projects with guidance from a mentor and other members of our team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with our Contract/Commercial team to grow design skills through comprehensive training and high-impact experiences.
  2. Gain an understanding of the dynamics of the Contract/Commercial sector.
  3. Engage in a team environment and develop client relationships.
  4. Knowledge of design software systems, such as: CAD and 2020.
  5. Gain experience in commercial furniture projects.
  6. Gain experience in furniture drawings with all parts correctly specified. The drawing should clearly communicate the specified furniture with appropriate labels for easy identification of the product.
  7. Gain experience with getting to know or find product information that ensures the solution provided for the customer is a viable solution for the product specified.
  8. Learn how to research furniture or building products as needed to find an appropriate solution for the need of the customer.
  9. Attend vendor presentations to learn about offered products.
  10. Assist with specification of materials for both furniture and finishes.
  11. Assist with maintenance of library materials cataloging.
  12. Other duties as assigned
  13. This is an onsite position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be enrolled in a four-year college/university pursuing a degree in Interior Design, Architectural Design, or related field. 
  • Must be a strong computer and Microsoft Office user.

Working conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
