This is a full-time 40 hour a week position. Second Shift

THE POSITION:

The Supervisor of Administrative Assistants and Attendants plays an essential role in the daily operations of the Hospital. Working collaboratively with the Inpatient staff to perform a variety of services, the Supervisor of Administrative Assistants and Attendants facilitates efficient functioning of both the attendant and administrative assistant teams.   

Some of the duties include:

  • Training attendants to provide more direct patient care, such as practicing safe, fear free restraint for medical procedures, walking our patients, bathing and cleaning patients, feeding, icing, nebulizing, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality service and in-depth knowledge of the various service functions, protocols and operations including but not limited to schedule structure, patient census, technical procedures, and staff competencies.
  • Provides oversight and direction to Inpatient Service attendants and administrative assistant staff. Demonstrate fairness and consistency when performing supervisory responsibilities.
  • Maintains high visibility and availability; able to redirect workflow to keep department functioning efficiently.
  • Monitors service daily to maximize efficiency of Inpatient Services and redirects assistance to other areas as needed.
  • Proactively address staff issues and concerns. Follow department guidelines for assessing and managing simple and complex problems and/or complaints. Model appropriate conduct, behavior and direction to staff members, developing their ability to recognize and handle veterinarian/staff concerns appropriately.
  • Staff management:  Including but not limited to: Recruitment and retention of staff members, performance management, staff scheduling, payroll, and employee relations. 
  • Work collaboratively with HR Generalist to manage employees and compliance with policies and procedures. Familiar with and regularly references the MSPCA Employment and Management Guides when necessary to answer employee questions or respond to employee issues.
  • Staff Training: Develop, maintain, and participate in the delivery of a quality training and professional development program for all Inpatient Services personnel.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for applicants with at least one year of supervisory experience.  Experience working in a veterinary medical setting in a hands on animal care role is ideal.  As this position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, we require applicants to include a cover letter showcasing your writing skills.
