Description

The University of Washington Department of Medicine has initiated a search for a Director to lead its Internal Medicine Residency Program.  Our mission is to train future leaders in medicine by cultivating a supportive, diverse, and inspirational learning environment to prepare residents to be academic leaders and outstanding clinicians.  The 174 medicine residents and 13 chief residents in our program train at over 20 medical centers, affiliates, and clinics, including the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System.  Our residents also have a unique opportunity to train with general internists in small communities in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the School of Medicine with over 4500 staff, faculty, trainees and students and an annual budget of approximately $500,000,000 consisting of patient care revenue, sponsored research funds, endowments and gifts, state funds and affiliated hospital funding associated with the academic programs within the department. The department is made up of eleven subspecialty divisions: Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Cardiology; Gastroenterology; General Internal Medicine; Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine; Hematology and Oncology; Medical Genetics; Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition; Nephrology; Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine; and Rheumatology.

The Program Director provides visionary, programmatic, and operational leadership for a world-class residency program.  They will be a role model for faculty members and residents in their outstanding professionalism, high quality patient care, educational excellence, and a scholarly approach to work. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in exemplary clinical care, and teaching. Additionally, they will be expected to work as part of an interdisciplinary, interprofessional team to create an educational environment that promotes high-quality care, patient safety, and resident well-being.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, without tenure due to funding (WOT) at 1.0 FTE. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Depending on their qualifications, the successful candidate will be appointed in one of the department’s subspecialty divisions. Associate and Full Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. We anticipate that the successful applicant would start in July 2024.

The base salary range for this position will be $17,500-$29,200 per month ($210,000-$350,400 per year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a Monthly Annual Compensation (MAC), Temporary Pay Supplement (TPS) and/or an Administrative Supplement (ADS) in addition to base pay. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
