The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the tenure track to serve as Chief of the Division of Health Policy, while pursuing a program of investigator-initiated research. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D or equivalent degree.
Teaching responsibilities may include include teaching in health policy-related programs at the University and mentoring postdoctoral and other trainees.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include pursuing a program of investigator-initiated original empirical research, including peer-reviewed external funding and publication in leading health policy, general medical or science, or other relevant journals.
Leadership and administrative responsibilities include shaping and overseeing the division’s research portfolio, recruiting new faculty, mentoring existing faculty, and building relationships related to health policy across the University of Pennsylvania and its health system.
The successful candidate will lead the Health Policy Division within the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. The Division includes 11 appointed faculty, in addition to numerous affiliated faculty, who conduct research related to domestic and global health policy with a wide range of topic areas including health care delivery and payment, physician and patient behavior change, economics of aging, anti-poverty policy, health disparities and equity, HIV policy, food policy, and more. The Division has greater than $13M annually in extramural funding and is home to or closely integrated with 3 centers/institutes and programs. Division faculty teach in the Department’s innovative online Master of Health Care Innovation Program as well as in numerous programs across the university, including the Master of Public Health, Master of Science in Health Policy, and Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology as well as the Master of Business Administration and PhD in Health Care Management at the Wharton School. The successful applicant for this position will:
1. Hold a terminal degree (e.g., MD, PhD, or equivalent)
2. Have a distinguished reputation as a leading scholar in one or more areas of health policy.
3. Demonstrate the ability and vision to lead a complex academic division, including managing trainees, faculty, and staff.
4. Have a track record of competing for peer-reviewed extramural funding and of impactful publication.
5. Have a history of excellence as a teacher and mentor.
