V2X Aerospace Solutions is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting development of advanced airborne systems including podded communication link and sensor systems, airborne armament equipment, alternate mission equipment, cockpit displays, avionics, and radar systems. Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career.

The candidate will be responsible for the design of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products.  The candidate will utilize their mechanical engineering expertise during the proposal and concept evaluation, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design.  The candidate will create design solutions that meet product requirements using 3-D CAD modeling software and will be hands-on supporting production, integration, and testing.  The candidate will provide leadership on mechanical issues to the project team, working closely with systems, electrical, and test engineers.

The candidate should be familiar with structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis and testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems in extreme environments. Additional consideration will be given to candidates that have proven experience analyzing systems using techniques from hand calculations to analysis software such as finite element analysis software or computational fluid dynamics. Typical assessments include analysis for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, fatigue (low and high cycle) and fracture mechanics, linear and non-linear thermo-elastic behavior, and thermal margin. Additional consideration will be given for candidates that have proven experience instrumenting or executing environmental testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems, including data capture, analysis, and correlation. Typical testing is done in accordance with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160.

In addition to their technical skills, the ideal candidate leverages strong verbal and written communication to adapt to a wide variety of high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.  We are looking for an engineer that enjoys working on-location, embraces challenges, and has a passion to support our DoD customers and international allies.

  • Experience instrumenting or executing environmental testing
  • In-depth understanding of the Engineering Lifecycle and processes
  • Current Active DoD Secret or higher Clearance

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline combined with a minimum of 8+ years of related professional experience
