Essential Functions:
MELE’s Director of HR will:
- Establish and implement HR initiatives that effectively communicate and support organizational culture and strategic vision.
- Develop HR strategies to empower people to do their best work and have a meaningful and balanced work-life employee experience.
- Collaborate with senior management as an active member of the corporate leadership team to function as a strategic advisor recommending any improvements in policies, procedures, and programs regarding key HR-related organizational, operational and management matters.
- Provide overall business skills, leadership abilities, strategic thinking, and sound judgment in driving organizational effectiveness and guidance to all HR-related functions.
- Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the company’s HR compliance and strategy needs.
- Monitor and ensure the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Consult and partner with in-house legal counsel on labor and employment laws and legal matters as appropriate.
- Supervise and oversee HR team members responsible for benefits and advise on plan design and administration including enhancements and changes to remain market competitive.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; and apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Advise, coach, and train senior managers on HR policies and programs including complex employee relations issues, disciplinary policies and annual evaluations.
- Conduct thorough and objective internal investigations, when necessary, in consultation with in-house legal counsel.
- Mentor subordinates on the HR team to increase their expertise and knowledge.
- Supervise and oversee HR team members responsible for administering onboarding and offboarding of MELE’s employees.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement.

- Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors to fulfill administrative responsibilities.
- Partner with payroll when necessary to manage timekeeping and payroll questions.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with an emphasis in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Leadership experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, including a minimum of 5 years in Human Resources Management.
- Certification in SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is highly preferred.
- Outstanding people skills: successful candidate must be proactive, creative, energetic, collaborative, collegial and promote an open-door environment.
- Broad knowledge of core Human Resources functions with a proven track record of success.
- Strong emotional intelligence and problem-solving skills; ability to build and sustain trust at all levels and offices in the organization.
- Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and HRIS/HRM systems; experience withUKGPro (UltiPro) strongly preferred.

Workplace Requirements:
- Director of HR required to work at MELE’s headquarters office in Rockville, MD – at the present time in a hybrid work environment with three days in the office and two days remote telework.
TravelRequirements:
- Occasional (once or twice a year) possibletravelto other MELE office site locations.
Salary:
- The salary range for this opportunity is between $120,000 and $150,000 per annum. Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
