The Interior Design team has an opening for an Interior Designer in our Higher Education Sector. DLR Group operates within a hybrid work model, supporting flexibility between office time and work from home.

Location: Charlotte, NC or Orlando, FL

Position Summary:

As an Interior Designer at DLR Group you will be working as part of integrated design teams responsible for the design and delivery processes aligned with client goals, budgets and schedule parameters. You will be responsible for collaborating on the design of complex projects from schematic design through construction administration on projects ranging in size and complexity. You will lead project design efforts, client interactions, and presentations. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with other disciplines, contractors, vendors and other DLR Group team members to establish project goals, create design documents and specifications.

The successful candidate will:

  • Take responsibility for the development of the design and the project with input from the Principal in Charge and/or the Design Leader for key project stages.
  • Have strong creative design and drawing skills, graphic and oral design presentation skills, capacity for conceptual design thinking, and 3D design/modeling ability.
  • Set a vision and direction for material palettes, reviews and provides feedback to the team for development.
  • Have strong client and time management skills.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Set a vision and direction for design concept presentations.
  • Will gain thorough knowledge of and compliance with DLR Group standards.
  • Be a collaborative design team member, leading in thought-leadership throughout all phases of the design process.
  • Contribute to the development of Construction Documents and specifications, may provide a QA/QC role.
  • Set direction and contribute to the development of Furniture packages, may provide a QA/QC role.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing Educational market sector interior projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office suite.
  • The ability to travel occasionally to support project tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices.
  • Outstanding communication, and interpersonal skills and be an enthusiastic team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with SketchUp and 3D Max/V-Ray.
  • NCIDQ certification.
  • Have interest in sustainable building design.
