Position: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Graduate Assistant

Status: Part-time, (20hrs/week)

Department: Environment & Society Department

Reports to: Chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council

Start Date: Fall Semester 2024

Compensation: Stipend, Room, and Tuition Reimbursement

Description:

As a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Graduate Assistant, your purpose is to help further the goals and objectives of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Paul Smith’s College. You will be expected to work approximately 20 hours per week during arranged office hours - Monday through Friday when Fall and Spring classes are in session. The specific hours worked will be at the discretion of the DEI Council (based on your class schedule and the office's needs). There may be additional evening weekend events, focus groups, or projects that will be necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Various projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update social media materials.
  • The ability to communicate the mission and purpose of multicultural, diverse, and inclusive community/campus programming.
  • Assist with other duties as needed or assigned by the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution and enrollment in Paul Smith’s College Master’s degree programs.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
  • Passion for social justice, diversity, equity & inclusion.
  • Strong comfort level with people from a variety of backgrounds, as well as a willingness to expand knowledge and skills related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Strong interest in promoting diversity, equity, & inclusion at PSC and in the community; primarily as related to various aspects of identity including, but not limited to race/ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religion, class, age, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complicated and/or controversial information in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with social media and content research/management.
