BCCS Registered Nurse Saturday Respite Silver building Brookville location Per diem

The Children’s Education Center offers a day care program with both integrated and special education preschool options, as well as a school age special education program and specialized autism program.

Qualifications:

  •  College degree required and NYS Department of Education Licensure as a Registered Nurse required
  • CPR and First Aid certification required and experience working with students with developmental disabilities preferred

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

1: Professional Duties

  • Promotes and maintains sound health practices for all students and staff
  • Administers, documents and monitors medication
  • Provides emergency medical care for all medical crises and accidents and provides seizure management.
  • Renders first aid to students and staff and relate information to appropriate individual.
  • Communicates with counselors to ensure that each student’s recreation activity takes his/her medical condition(s) into consideration.
  • Provides prompt detection and referral of health/medical problem to the appropriate health/medical specialist and parent.
  • Ensures that a comprehensive medical record of each student is available and updated accordingly.
  • Maintains control, documentation, reporting and follow-up of all communicable diseases and infections.
  • Communicates medical issues of students to counselors, parents, medical specialists and administration.
  • Documents health office visits.
  • Maintains inventory of medical supplies.
  • Adheres to agency policies/procedures
  • Performs additional related duties as requested by supervisor
  • Ensures that work related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff.

2: Environment Management

  • Responsible for the health and safety of participants during program time
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and attractive environment.

3:  Professional Behavior

  • Cooperate and conduct self in manner appropriate to recreation/respite setting
  • Adhere to program specific policies and procedures.
  • Participate in program-wide activities and act in an appropriate manner
  • Participate in activities and seek support to enhance knowledge in areas pertinent to participants in program

4:  Professional Development

  • Maintenance of nursing expertise via participation in continuing education.
  • Attend and participate in supervision and implement recommendations appropriately.

5:  Adhere to general policies of the organization/regulators including:

  • Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.
  • Departmental in-service education program requirements.
  • Fire/Safety prevention protocols.
  • Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.)
  • Quality improvement activities.
  • Job related self-development education activities.
  • Infection control practices and procedures.
  • Regulatory requirements and annual physical examination and Mantoux testing.

6:  Performs other related duties, as required

  • Demonstrate understanding of the needs of participants and visitors for each specific age group.
  • Address safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.
  • Address the needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to the program and facility.
  • Maintain participant, family and employee confidentiality.
  • Is consistently courteous and considerate in person, on the telephone, and in interactions with participants and others such as family, visitors, venders, and other employees.
  • Exhibit the “At Your Service” attitude, i.e. smiles, uses positive eye contact, and is friendly, open and approachable.
  • Respond quickly to participant, and/or parent/guardian’s request, refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.
  • Promote positive co-worker relationships, teamwork and cooperation.
  • Work collaboratively and is respectful of others.
