Purpose: The Shift Supervisor will oversee the people and processes within the Raw Materials Processing Center (RMPC) Department which receives spent automotive/industrial batteries and breaks them down into raw material components. RMPC processes the materials including de-sulfurization to provide lead to the Furnace Department in a safe and environmentally compliant manner. RMPC also manages wastewater treatment for the facility. This position is scheduled for 12-hour shifts covering 6:00pm-6:00am on a rotating basis.

Plan and schedule staff to meet daily production needs.
Oversee, coach, and train employees to be the best they can be in their jobs so that they have a successful career and future at Gopher Resource, as well as ensure high quality, and safe production.
Responsibilities:
Plan, schedule, and coordinate shift work according to product schedule and hourly staff on the shift
Train, coach, and develop the production staff to ensure they are properly trained on safety guidelines, operating procedures, and operation of equipment; develop lead person and process technician staff in basic supervisory skills
Monitor and promote employee attendance policies and procedures through shift meetings, missed time slips, and warning slips
Participate in the evaluation process of direct reports, offering constructive feedback on areas of position skills and needed development
Cascade information from upper management to hourly employees in a professional and timely manner
Take immediate action in production plant regarding safety violations, production standards deviations, and other operating problems that may arise during the course of production
Conduct rounds to check on all gauges, controls, equipment, and document stats on log sheets for permanent record keeping - this includes RMPC, furnace, refining, shipping, maintenance, wastewater treatment, and Resource Plastics
Respond to any health issues according to basic first aid guidelines and training
Review maintenance work performed during the shift to ensure productivity is on track; adjust maintenance priorities as necessary to reflect any critical malfunctions during the shift
Participate in the training of staff in other departments to include Plastics, RMPC, furnace, refining, and wastewater treatment
Report shift statistics at the end of shift and assist the next shift manager with the transition to ensure continuous operation of the plant; make rounds with incoming shift supervisor to review the status of the plant prior to shift change
Sit on and participate in meetings, teams, and training seminars; must be willing to attend meetings on nonscheduled days

Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED minimally required
Previous supervisory experience with a frontline production workforce
Previous work experience within a heavy industrial manufacturing setting
Ability to promote a positive team atmosphere and continuous improvement culture
Ability to read, interpret, and apply labor contract and work rules
Technical proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word
Excellent ability to maintain composure and focus during high-stress and urgent situations
Effective, professional communication skills – including active listening, professional email and messaging, and strong interpersonal skills
Willingness to maintain required certifications (Basic First Aid, CPR, Haz Waste) and participate in required training
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Management, or Sciences from accredited school preferred, but not required
Previous work experience supervising union employees preferred, but not required
Strong understanding of lead and plastics recycling technology and production processes preferred, but not required
