GAI Consultants is looking for a Project Engineer within our Civil and Environmental Business Sector. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment. This position can report to any of the following offices: Glen Allen, VA; Warrenton, VA; Bridgeport, WV; or Charleston, WV.

Job Duties:

  • Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineer project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; preparation; and permitting.
  • Undertakes technical and feasibility studies.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and discusses requirements with team members.
  • Uses computer programs to develop detailed designs.
  • Ensures that work products meet client, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Performs work under guidance from professional engineering staff.
  • Handles basic to moderate issues and problems but will refer complex issues to more experienced staff.
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of civil engineering design tasks and a positive attitude.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and analysis modules.
  • Performs moderate to complex civil design tasks while delegating more routine tasks to staff with less experience.
  • Mentor, guide and check the work of less experienced staff.
  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Adhere to safety and quality procedures of GAI and our clients.
  • Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements of this position include the ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc. in various temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.
