The team member during this “prior to training” period, can’t perform any direct/physical patient care
The position is part of the Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP)
Once this team member completes the nurse aide classes and required clinical work, the team member is considered a Nurse Aide in Training (NAT).
The facility may not use any individual working in the facility as a nurse aide for more than 4 months under the Pre-T or NAT positions. The team member must pass the licensure test to become a STNA during this time period. If the team member fails to pass the licensure test in the 4 month period, they either have to be terminated or be moved to a non-nursing position
RESPONSIBILITIES
Answer call lights
Pass ice and water to patients between meals. Assist with hydration cart and HS snack pass
Assist with making patient beds
Assist with laundry portion of STNA job:
Put away patient’s clean personal laundry.
Stock the clean linen closets following proper infection control techniques
Clean and organize patient drawers under the direction of patient/responsible party
Empty soiled utility containers in outside trash
Mark personal items (i.e. toothbrush, denture cups, toothpaste, etc…) to prevent cross contamination
Set dining room tables (linens and silver ware) in prep for meal service
Meal Service – team member is not permitted to feed any patient
Passing trays and drinks to residents in dining room
Delivering room trays to patients room
Perform one on one visits/companionship with patients
Complete any other non-direct care task assigned by nurse or unit manager
Assist with activities if no other nursing related activities are needed
