The Position:
The Blood Bank Technician/Inpatient Services Technician II is a hybrid position, working part-time with our blood donor program and part-time as an Inpatient Service Technician II in our Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. As our in-house blood donor program expands, this role with gradually transition to be a full time blood bank technician position.
The blood bank technician will work closely with the criticalist overseeing the blood donor program to recruit, schedule and perform blood collections from cats and dogs. Once the blood donation has been performed, the technician will also process the blood into their components and ensure that they are logged and stored appropriately. The blood bank technician will also monitor the use of blood products in the hospital and make purchases as needed to supply our blood bank until our in-house blood donor program can meet all the blood product needs of the hospital.
The Inpatient Services Technician II assists our clinicians in triaging, stabilizing, and providing high quality nursing care to our patients, offers instruction and demonstration to veterinary students, interns, residents, and other technicians/assistants. Qualified candidates should have experience working in emergency veterinary medicine and the desire to increase their knowledge and professional skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Mandatory regular attendance and punctual presence.
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Must be able to constantly move about within the wards and departments.
• Must be able to frequently position self in a manner to attend to patients at varying heights, including floor and exam table levels (3 – 4 feet in height).
• Must be able to constantly move patients weighing up to 50 pounds within the wards, departments and grounds; over 50lbs with assistance

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least three years of experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant. Minimum of one year emergency critical care or anesthesia experience. Certified Veterinary Technician required. As this position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, we require applicants to include a cover letter showcasing your writing skills.
