Overview

The Bridge Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the construction, maintenance, repairs and/or renewal of bridges, culverts to ensure compliance with FEC, AREMA, and Industry Bridge Standards with a “Safety First” focus.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the continued maintenance of bridges, culverts, and structures. Prioritizes repairs based on conditions.
  • Responsible for planning preventative maintenance and handling of emergency repairs.
  • Provide contractor oversight and quality control during railroad bridge construction projects throughout the corridor.
  • Understands and interprets plans with ability to ensure construction is performed in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Manages bridge material at various locations.
  • Provides direction and effective supervision to all team members to promote safe and efficient work habits.
  • Creates and reviews various reports, such as bridge inspection reports, production reports, material requisitions, and FRA reports.
  • Ensures maximum quality performance with minimal delays and costs.
  • Ensures the working reliability and performance of equipment.
  • Participates in the planning and building of budgets.

Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule.
  • Combination of office and field work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Respond to unexpected or emergency situations.
  • Lift up to 50lbs.
  • Up to 50% travel requiring overnight stay required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in the rail industry.
  • 3 years’ experience in railroad bridge maintenance/construction or other related formal training.
  • Qualified FRA Title 49, Track Safety Standards Part 213, and Railroad Workplace Safety and Bridge Worker Safety Part 214.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ experience in railroad bridge maintenance/construction supervision or other related formal training.
  • Prior experience and knowledge repairing, maintaining, and rehabilitating moveable railroad bridges.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Adapts rapidly to changing circumstances and manages stressful situations.
  • Proven leadership skills building a strong team in a unionized workforce.
  • Knowledge of railroad construction materials.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and maintenance activities simultaneously
  • Result-focused
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in providing quality control oversight for new bridge construction and field verification of construction in conformance with project plans/specifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand and apply safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of rail operations and physical characteristics
  • Must be able to collaborate with others to accomplish organizational goals, identify and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
