HS Special Education Teacher - Walsh Academy - Niles 60714
Walsh Academy is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to lead classroom instruction in a Special Education setting at the Niles Campus. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for supervising and coordinating classroom activities, ensuring successful academic and vocational outcomes for all students. Pay is based on days remaining in current 2024 school year. 2024 Summer Stipend is separate compensation.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (Special Education) from an accredited college or university; Master's Degree preferred
- Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavioral Specialist (LBSI) endorsement
- Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience, preferably in special education or alternative school settings
- Instructional and assessment skills with a focus on the special education population
- Salary $58,000 per year with
- Summer Stipend $6,900 for mandatory Summer Session
- Must be able to pass Faith's Law employment History Review
- Valid Illinois driver's license required
- Hours - School day 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish collaborative relationships with colleagues, consultants, therapists, and administrators
- Maintain required educational certifications and training as per Maryville Academy and ISBE requirements
- Stay informed and seek training in current developments, trends, and instructional best practices
- Attend scheduled team meetings and actively participate in discussions
- Communicate with parents/guardians and external stakeholders in a positive and supportive manner
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the needs of students
- Document student progress and completion of work in a timely manner
- Contribute to a positive and supportive school environment
- Participate in in-service trainings and staff development opportunities
- Adhere to policies involving reporting of suspected abuse and maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Maintain neat and orderly classroom materials and assigned space
- Participate in performance quality improvement initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation
- Familiarity with service delivery options and crisis intervention procedures
- Organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain professionalism in challenging situations
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk, and drive for extended periods
- Occasional lifting/moving of objects and/or students weighing over 40 pounds
- Capability to provide physical restraint for students as necessary
- Visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform essential job functions
- Participation in physical education activities with students
Environment & Scheduling
- Work during school and vocational program days and hours 7:30 a to 3:30 p
- Potential for off-site work during remote learning or other circumstances
- Work in various settings associated with Maryville Walsh Academy, including administrative offices and program settings
