Job Description

.     Job Title:                          Cost Accountant

         Department:                               MA6101 Finance

         Reporting Relationship:             Cost Accounting Manager

B.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate-level accounting work requiring the use of professional concepts
  • Analyze data, prepare journal entries and reconcile ledger accounts
  • Perform various close responsibilities related to COGS and variances
  • Maintain standard costs for multiple locations ( Madison and NA Comm Ops)
  • Provide detailed analysis of PPV for Purchasing Team
  • Perform periodic audits WIP inventory and cycle count inventory results
  • Assist with annual budget process
  • Assist with all financial audits
  • Various other projects/duties as assigned

C.     Decision Making Authority

  • Authorize adjustments to the general ledger in connection with cost center/ profit center review
  • Authority regarding routine inventory/costing and compliance issues

D.     Specific Scope Data

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate standard costs for Madison and NA Comm Ops
  • Responsible for accounting for manufacturing and customer support cost and inventory reporting
  • Responsible for meeting deadlines for monthly close process

E.     Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus two to five years experience, or equivalent desired
  • CPA or CMA a plus

F.     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions

  • Ability to carry out specific projects and meet goals and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and timely, with little or no supervision
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Appreciation and understanding of outside department functions (manufacturing, engineering,

      customer support, IT, order admin, marketing and sales)

  • Computer skills, especially MicroSoft Excel, Word and Access.  SAP or other ERP system experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Physical Activity:  Fingering, talking, hearing, walking, grasping, repetitive motion                              
  • Level of Physical requirements: Sedentary work
  • Level of visual acuity: Inspection, close assembly, clerical, professional or administrative
