What does the Radiation Therapist Assistant do?
The Radiation Therapist may be required to perform the duties of radiation therapist, mold technician and basic Dosimetry duties in order to maintain a high-quality care environment. Assists in supervision of simulation therapists, radiation therapists and mold technicians in order to effectively deliver a high-quality radiation therapy treatment course for each patient presented. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training designated employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and rewarding and disciplining employees.
- Serves as mentor to employees in radiation oncology department.
- Responsible for the instruction of newly hired radiation staff and radiation therapy students on all equipment applicable.
- Maintains patient appointment schedule and submits correct billing information.
- Accurately delivers and records radiation therapy treatments under the direction of a radiation oncologist.
- May assist in chart audits and QA procedures.
- May participate in development of QA procedures.
- Accurately interprets a computerized treatment plan.
- Accurately cuts blocks and makes custom molds.
- Accurately enters and maintains patient treatment parameters into the electronic medical record.
- Accurately completes simple mu calculation.
- May review and amend patient billing for accuracy.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
The ideal candidate for the Radiation Therapist will have the following background and experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum one year medical/healthcare experience required.
- Prior experience with radiation therapy principles and block fabrication preferred, but not required.
