SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for efficient scheduling of all patients for procedures at the Center. The Surgery Scheduler works with Physician offices to schedule procedure appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Maintains complete and accurate records and files.
- Schedules surgical procedures.
- Coordinates specific scheduling requests for time and equipment with the Nursing Director/OR Charge Nurse.
- Ascertains privileges of scheduling Physicians.
- Prints and distributes procedure schedules.
- Enters registration and insurance information into the computer.
- Reschedule cancelled or postponed cases, communicates cancelled and/or add-ons to Pre-op, PACU, OR, anesthesia and administrative staff.
- Ensures times, procedures, patient and Physician names are complete and accurate on schedule before distribution.
- Ensures all related and pertinent clinical information is forwarded to the Pre-op, OR and materials coordinator.
- Communicates with Anesthesia regarding surgery schedule to ensure coverage.
- Verify with Physician's offices scheduled procedures and block time utilization at least one week in advance.
- Learns all aspects of reception and insurance verification job responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to operate and maintain copy machine, adding machine, postal meter and keyboard.

- Be detailed oriented.
- Establish and maintain courteous and professional working relationships with Physicians, clinical and business office staff, patients and family members.
- Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policies on all matters.
- Must have BLS certification within six months of working at the Center.
MINIMUM BACKGROUND & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Technical training and/or work related experience necessary. Must have computer experience working with Window’s based systems. Completion of a medical terminology course and knowledge of health insurance plans preferred. Previous surgery scheduling experience preferred.
