The Monitor Technician supports patient provision of care by continuous observation for patients' vitals readings, cardiac rhythms, and overall health status. The Monitor Technician documents and reports findings and any abnormalities to nursing staff.
Monitors patient cardiac rhythm, vital signs and overall status for assigned patient throughout shift. Routinely places graph monitor strips on appropriate chart.
Responds appropriately to patient emergencies and immediately notifies the primary nurse of any changes or abnormalities.
Routinely confirms that all patient chart identification is correct. Reviews the electronic medical record for relevant information.
Seeks pertinent information related to patient and assists with provision of care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area.
Answers intercom, call system and telephone and promptly relays messages as necessary. Initiates calls to physicians as ordered.
Communicates effectively with other staff members in support of patient care.
Obtains supplies and equipment as needed for patients and restocks supplies when needed, ensuring that all supplies used are properly charged to the patients.
Post-Employment: Successful completion of Flagler Hospital Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required within 90 days of start, with annual renewal required.
Additional Information: BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
