Glen-Gery, one of the nation’s leading brick manufacturers, is looking for a talented Electrical Control Technician to join the team in Lawrenceville, VA. This person will be responsible for mechanical and electrical repairs as needed to maintain the facility, equipment, production requirements and quality standards of the plant.

Accountability:

The Electrical Control Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. When on back shifts, off shifts, or call-outs, reports as necessary to the Shift Production Supervisor(s) or other on-site management personnel.

Basic Function:

This individual must be able to work independently and/or with others, in a safe manner, to perform general plant maintenance, which may consist of both major and minor mechanical and electrical repairs, as needed to maintain the facility, equipment, production requirements, and quality standards of the plant. Primary focus will be the electrical/electronic related machine control and automation throughout the facility.

Mechanical Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities for the Control Technician involve electrical control systems and machine control automation. However, the Control Technician will be requested to perform mechanical tasks that are required to complete their primary responsibilities. Occasionally, the Control Technician will also be requested to assist Maintenance Technicians in various tasks that may or may not involve mechanical work.

The following are considered fundamental skills:

  • Identification and use of basic hand and power tools involved in performing both electrical and mechanical work
  • Identification and use of mechanical fasteners
  • Read and interpret pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical and P & ID drawings.
  • General knowledge of machine inspections that involve mechanical components
  • General knowledge of lubricant application and use

Electrical Responsibilities:

Must have a high level of knowledge, skills, and practical experience with automated production equipment including, but not limited to programmable logic controllers (Allen-Bradley & Siemens), industrial networks, DeviceNet, DH+, Interbus and Ethemet communications and related devices, variable frequency drives (Allen-Bradley, Altivar, SEW, Toshiba), encoder/resolvers, instrumentation systems & devices (intelligent transducers/transmitters), control valves and actuators, and robotics.  Must be able to read, understand, and interpret PLC ladder diagrams accurately. Must be able to use Allen-Bradley RSLogix500 & Rslogix5000 software to navigate, troubleshoot, edit, and modify PLC programs. Must also be able to effectively use and configure all related process control software (and configuration tools) to include but not limited to RSLinx, RSView ME, RSNetWorx, VFD configuring software, and various handheld programmers

Must be able to read and understand complex program and equipment manuals with a high degree of comprehension and accuracy. Must have a working knowledge of computers, including a basic understanding of commercial software utilizing the Microsoft Windows-based environment. Must have a fundamental familiarity with commercial software applications including MSWord,

MSExcel, MSAccess and AutoCAD. Must possess a good working knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods outlined and recommended in the National Electric Code (NEC) and OSHA Subpart S — Electrical Safety. (29CFR 1910.301 — 1910.399)

Must possess a good working knowledge of electrical principles and standard, accepted, wiring practices to troubleshoot complex electrical circuits used in industrial manufacturing equipment and machinery. Must be able to use, properly and safely, a variety of test equipment to diagnose and repair electrical problems associated with power distribution systems and equipment electrical control systems. This equipment will also include common volt/ohm meters, current/voltage sources, amprobes, oscilloscopes (at some future date), and network diagnostic equipment. Must be able to read, understand, and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Must be able to document changes and update drawings as necessary. Must be able to perform equipment electrical inspections, preventive type maintenance, and upgrade modifications to equipment and facilities electrical systems. Must be able to operate most plant mobile equipment in a safe and proper manner.

General Responsibilities:

Must be able to exercise sound judgment in carrying out daily job assignments. Must, at all times, perform daily job assignments in a sate, proper, and professional manner. May, at times, have job assignments or duties that are normally carried out by persons in a lower job classification.

Must be able to, properly and safely, use various hand and power tools; such as dnils, saws, hammers, drill press, hydraulic press, and other shop equipment. May, at times, provide work instruction and/or leadership to persons employed in a lower job classification.

Position Responsibilities:

Must be capable of working the following:

  • Rotating shifts (first, second or third shift)
  • Short notice overtime hours
  • Weekends and Holidays

Must be capable of being scheduled to cover maintenance problems that occur during off-duty hours, weekends, or scheduled holidays.

Personal Qualifications:

Must have the physical ability to stand, walk, crawl in tight places, climb, reach, and bend for periods of lasting duration. Must be able to differentiate between various colors. Must have normal vision and

depth perception, with or without corrective lenses. Must have the ability to climb ladders, work from ladders and scaffolds, and lift heavy objects as needed. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and environments. Must be able to work with, and around, physical hazards such as moving mechanical parts or energized electrical circuits. May have exposure to various chemicals and fumes. Any such exposure will be monitored and kept within established safety hazard guidelines,
