Job Description

  • Grade(s): Kindergarten - 4th

POSITION OVERVIEW

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, and cognitive communication swallowing disorders in children and adults.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Creating treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of students.
  • Performing screenings to detect voice or speech disorders.
  • Educating students and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events.
  • Maintaining detailed records of patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress.
  • Reporting progress and current status to appropriate parties, including family members, teachers, or medical professionals.
  • Build strong relationships with students and their families to support students' academic, social, and emotional success.
  • Provide speech-language therapy according to students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in individual and group settings.
  • Complete language evaluations and present findings at Special Education eligibility meetings.
  • Collaborate with teaching and student support staff regarding student progress and programming.
  • Be active in the school-based support team to ensure student progress through the right supports and interventions.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited College or University required
  • Valid New York State Speech-Language Pathology License and a graduate degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders from a New York State registered licensure qualifying program, a program accredited by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), or the equivalent.
  • Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families.
  • Comprehension of district policies and procedures.
  • Preferred SLP experience working directly with students, preferably required in the charter, private, or public school environment.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $56,000 - $113,927.  

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
