How Will You Make an Impact?

The Sr. Manager, Product Management is accountable for the growth and direction of the Portable Elemental (XRF and LIBS) product lines within MCS. This role is responsible for creating and implementing the product roadmap for elemental products, accessories and software and creating revenue growth and profitability for the business. This is a cross-functional role that requires balancing multiple priorities and collaborators, especially operations, sales, and R&D. A critical aspect of the role will be to develop roadmaps and prioritize projects for differentiated products within competitive markets. They will own the lifecycle of a portfolio while acting as the liaison between Sales, Market Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Technical/Customer Support and Supply Chain. This position will drive new innovations within the Elemental space including market analysis, product definition, positioning and pricing. This role assumes strong awareness of financial commitments, anticipates risks that impact the current or future quarters, and aligns with sales, operations, and management on mitigating actions. The role will be an individual contributor with opportunities to eventually establish a team.

What Will You Do?

  • Drives revenue and profit growth for a product line

  • Develops the long-term product roadmap and strategy, STRAP planning

  • Actively uses VOC to drive innovation; understands and communicates customer needs

  • Owns entire product lifecycle including developing the justification, product launch plans, pricing and positioning, value proposition and channel strategy

  • Monitors competitive activity and develops strategies for new and existing products

  • Provides product-specific technical and marketing support to field sales organizations and channel partners

  • Drives profitability & revenue growth through sales opportunity pipeline development and proactive management of risk across multiple teams

  • Works cross-functionally to support positive quality, operations, and services outcomes

  • Training and sales support; partners with marketing, sales management and other resources to provide product line training and support

Competencies:

  • Familiarity with Elemental, Metallurgy, Materials Science or similar; Knowledge of Elemental markets with ability to optimally communicate customer needs across the organization

  • Product and project management skills; execution oriented and able to drive projects to completion

  • Comfortable working with highly technical scientists and engineers as well as customers

  • Knows how to convert market intelligence into valued added features and products

  • Able to lead cross-functionally to accelerate new product development

  • Capable of researching industries, applications, customers, and market trends to be able to draw meaningful conclusions towards justification of project

  • Ability to build, lead, and inspire teams across a matrix environment; effective at influencing others and establishing relationships with a collaborative approach

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in scientific field or business field

  • MBA preferred

Experience:

  • 7+ years related experience required

  • 3+ years previous experience in a product management or applications role preferred; global, matrix-environment experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to assess problems from multiple angles

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail; ability to step back and analyze the overall business impact and then make appropriate decisions

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to support business unit executives with analysis and presentations

  • Comfortable launching products within a stage-gate environment

  • Proficient skills in forecasting revenue and margin impacts of strategic proposals

  • Strong skills in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Up to 25% travel- domestic & international
