Germantown Friends School is looking for a part-time and full-time Early Childhood afternoon floater/extended day teacher to work until 6:00 p.m. (start time flexible) at our Main and Center City Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates developmentally appropriate activities that intentionally stimulate language, promote social-emotional skills, encourage fine/gross motor development, and build community.
  • Facilitates theme-based curriculum, which includes art, science, yoga/mindfulness, and cooking.
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to varying needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Fosters exploratory learning through play as an extension of the learning throughout the day.
  • Creates schedules and routines to ensure children experience stimulation, exploratory playtime, physical activity, and downtime.
  • Brings Quaker values into all aspects of teaching, learning, and connecting. 
  • Supports children during after-school clubs, including getting children dressed appropriately.
  • Meets and greets afternoon buses arriving from Main Campus and supports acclimation of children who arrive on the bus (for both EC and Lower School divisions).

Interactions with Students

  • Encourages students to be more independent by gently challenging their capabilities while nurturing their self-esteem.
  • Gives extra support to children who might benefit from behavioral intervention and reminders.
  • Creates a sense of community with all the children in the EC. 
  • Is flexible in meeting group and individual needs of the children in the EC.

Interaction with Co-Workers

  • Effectively and positively communicates with co-workers.
  • Participates in professional development to further enrich and challenge teaching methods.
  • Promotes healthy working relationships within the classroom.
