Job Summary:

The Pile Driver Foreman will provide marine project support and is primarily responsible for supervising daily ongoing operations on a work barge and ensuring that all work performed is done in a safe and efficient manner. Will typically work closely with the Project Superintendent, Project or Field Engineer, Field Safety Representative, Pile Drivers, and other skilled or semi-skilled craft personnel on the worksite.

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of marine construction piling and concrete experience on work barges or job sites or equivalent experience in a marine construction supervisory capacity is required
  • Experience with various crafts to successfully perform work.  Craft knowledge should include pile driving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting, and related areas

Skills:

  • Understand the basic functions and operations of various types of pile hammers - diesel, air, hydraulic, and drop hammers
  • Able to read and understand blueprints or site plans from which the piledriving work will be done.
  • Has general knowledge of construction rigging - use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks, etc.
  • Able to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate
  • Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively oversee all aspects of the project
  • Able to motivate and hold crews accountable for safe work practices and work performance excellence
  • Ability to plan for upcoming work and maintain project schedules
  • Able to influence and motivate work crews

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure the successful completion of current, ongoing marine construction projects.
  • Oversee the movement of marine floating rigs from location to location.
  • Drive pilings for retaining walls, bulkheads, and foundations of structures, such as buildings, bridges, and piers.
  • Use the pile driver head-on machine to drive pilings.
  • Judge distance and position piling leads.
  • Comply with safety codes.
  • Confer with the Project Superintendent, Field Engineer, or Project Engineer on job specifications.
  • Receive and handle material and equipment which may be required for the marine operation and is involved in construction operations.
  • Make certain that proper permits are in hand prior to any activity and inspect equipment visually to ensure that it is operating properly.
  • Assist in unloading and assembling a crane or other hoisting equipment to be used in piledriving activities.
  • Unload various types of piling - concrete, steel pipe, H-piling, timber, and steel sheet piling.
  • Perform site preparation for the installation of various concrete, timber, or steel piling.
  • Prepare the piling to be driven and assist in positioning and driving the piling.
  • Ensure all Ballard Health, Safety & Environmental policies are followed.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned or requested by the immediate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports but will provide oversight for project teams.

 

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Must be capable of walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting onto and off barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters
  • Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time
  • Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 40' - 50'
  • Working in confined spaces and elevated heights
  • Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs. as required
  • Adapting to extreme temperature changes and site conditions
  • Must be able to wear safety gear (PPE)
