Assistant Dryland Coach

Job Summary

JCC Mid-Westchester Stingrays is seeking an experienced Dryland Coach, overseeing design and implementation of dryland training and instruction for Stingrays swimmers aged 9-18 under the direction of the coaches. This role encompasses coaching responsibilities, management, administrative tasks, and other duties delegated by the Head Swim Coach and/or Director of Aquatics. The Dryland coach will play a pivotal role in advancing and nurturing the athletes on the USA Swim competitive and noncompetitive recreational teams.

Key Responsibilities

Dryland Program Design & Instruction:

  • Design and implement age-specific dryland training programs (ages 9-18) to enhance athletic performance for competitive swimmers.
  • Develop curriculum and skills training that focuses on:
    • Core strength, balance, and flexibility as foundational elements.
    • Compound movements (upper/lower body integration) and explosive power (jumps, plyometrics).
    • Rotational strength for stroke efficiency and shoulder prehabilitation to prevent injury.
    • Isometric holds and dynamic exercises build muscular endurance and stability.
  • Evaluate and track athlete progress
  • Adapt athlete development programs to align with swim season goals and competition schedules

Collaboration & Safety:

  • Motivate swimmers to achieve individual and team goals through structured, engaging workouts.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and growth. Work closely with swim coaches to ensure dryland training complements pool workouts and meets team objectives.
  • Supervise athletes during sessions, enforce safety protocols, and report concerns to the Head Coach.
  • Set up/take down equipment and maintain a clean, organized training space.

Salary: $25-$28 an hour, plus medical benefits

Part-Time, flexible, about 25/hours/week between the hours of Mon-Fri 4-8pm and weekend mornings between 7-11am

Certifications, Education and Experience

  • 1+ years coaching dryland training, strength/conditioning, or group fitness (experience with youth athletes preferred).Experience in competitive swimming environments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of swim-specific biomechanics and injury prevention strategies
  • Strong understanding of functional fitness, progressions, and age-appropriate programming.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. This can be done after hiring; JCCMW will provide necessary training.
  • Preferred:
    • Certification in Personal Training (NASM, ACE, or equivalent).
    • USA Swimming Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
    • Background in sports science, kinesiology, or related field.

Physical Requirements

Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time.

$35,000 - $45,000
