Job Summary: The Nurse Manager will collaborate with district and school leadership to support the total school health service program within the school district. The Nurse Manager will routinely visit all schools within the District and support the development of a comprehensive school health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, and federal and state regulations and statutes governing nursing, school health, and local school district policy.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the district nurses in the development of medical plans, individual health plans, and 504s for students with significant health concerns
Collaborate with school leadership in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of school nurses, and act as mentor for new nurses
Recruit, interview, and recommend for hire substitute nurses
Coordinately regular staff meetings, and create and deliver professional development, and orientation for new staff, including substitute nurses
Coordinate substitute coverage in collaboration with school leadership, and in the absence of a school nurse, providing coverage if necessary.
Coordinate with school leaders and school nurses to ensure coverage of all school field trips and after school sponsored events, when appropriate.
Serves as a member of the District’s Health and Wellness Committee
Oversee the health services budget, and in collaboration with the district leadership, identify and report on any district-wide initiatives, and management of supplies including Epipen4schools program
Responsible for MA DPH med delegation and will support training of school staff in the delegation of medication consistent with the Massachusetts department of Public Health regulations
In collaboration with the school nursing staff, update School Nursing policy and Procedures Manual
Communicate important health related information, including but not limited to school health issues, to school nurses, building principals, and district leadership, as needed
Support the Kindergarten registration process with the review of health needs for all newly registered students and ensure needs are communicated to school-based nurses and principals
Deliver training of nursing staff in collaboration with school and district leadership on procedures, care plans, and best practices in school nursing including mental health and social emotional well-being
Coordinate, with the school nurses, student health screenings
Consult with the School Physician, Board of Health, and Massachusetts Department of Public Health in matters of public health
Prepare reports for school officials, school committee, Hingham Board of Health, and other agencies, as needed
Manage technology applications, and databases
Update standing orders
Coordinate the completion of state reporting including CLIA certificate waiver, building Emergency Response Plans (MERP), medication delegation certificate, and monthly and year end reports to state
Coordinate the service contracts for school health equipment calibration; schedule calibration annually
Collaborate with district leadership with implementation for accident report protocol for staff and students

Bachelor’s Degree minimum required, Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure (Director/Supervisor – Nursing) required
Hold and maintain RN State License
Minimum five years’ experience in school nursing or related field
Experience in child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing
Valid certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, trainer’s certification for CPR and First Aid is recommended; other certifications as required

School Year position (200 Days)
The nature of this position may require hours beyond the regular school day for administrator meetings, etc. It is expected that the person filling this position will give priority to completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
Salary and fringe benefits are to be established by the Superintendent in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee.
