SUMMARY

Under general direction, is responsible for providing speech and language services to individuals pursuant to the Individualized Family, Service or Education Plan (IFSP, IEP, ISP). This is a part-time role, up to 12 hours/week. Hours and Days of the week are flexible!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Speech Therapist will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts various tests to evaluate speech and language status of consumer. Analyzes test results and prepares reports for presentation to Health Department, School District, DDSO, or other regulatory, referring or oversight organization with responsibility for treatment planning for consumer.
  • Plans and conducts speech language interventions, therapies and treatments.
  • Implements testing procedures to evaluate and monitor participant progress following stated treatment period as required by appropriate regulatory agency. Provides written report of results to appropriate management personnel.
  • Assesses oral motor development and ability to intake food orally and develops a treatment plan appropriate to identified disabilities, subject to professional licensure requirements established by respective funding source.
  • Keeps current in latest alternative communication techniques and implements appropriate techniques subject to agreement of necessary parties.
  • Maintains daily and monthly attendance records and progress notes.
  • Provides therapy progress reports to parents/guardians or appropriate treatment team members. Meets and communicates with parents/guardians regularly in writing or verbally as required.
  • Participates in team meetings and case conferences as required.
  • Ensures individuals receive services appropriate to their needs and consistent with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures parents, guardians and other individuals with responsibility for individual’s care and treatment are kept informed and up to date about individual’s progress.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provides supervision to students and CFY’s as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Good interpersonal skills are required in order to interact effectively with employees, co-workers, person supported, their families, other programs, outside contacts, etc.
  • Due to sensitive nature of the position, must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of Picture Exchange Communication and manual sign language preferred.
  • Ability to use personal computers, electronic devices, etc. as required for treatment
  • Ability and willingness to travel to private homes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • One year of prior Speech Therapist experience preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Current NYS license in Speech Language Pathology

COMPENSATION: $40 - $50/hour
