Thermo Fisher Scientific in San Diego develops online instrumentation for process and quality control in dynamic industries such as clean energy and food safety.
How will you make an impact?
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you help to make the world safer, cleaner, and healthier!
You will be a key member of cross functional team dedicated to developing groundbreaking online x-ray inspection systems for the clean energy industry.
What will you do?
- Contribute to the research, design, verification, and validation of x-ray inspection systems.
- Research and test x-ray sources and detectors to optimize material discrimination.
- Develop, test, and implement advanced image processing and detection algorithms
- Design and conduct experiments, analyze data and make design recommendations
- Prepare reports on research and development efforts for internal use and for the purpose of obtaining patents to protect technology developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
- Utilize modeling codes to improve current product and develop new designs and processes.
- Ensure work is in accordance with our engineering and product development processes
How will you get here?
Education
- A degree in physical sciences, engineering or related field from an accredited college or university
- Graduate degree or equivalent experience is preferred
Experience
- 7+ years of experience with x-ray inspection systems, x-ray detection and measurement, or other imaging technologies
- Practical experience with x-ray sources and detectors
- Experience with developing and implementing image processing algorithms
- Proven track record of conceptualizing and implementing new designs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent analytical and experimental skills
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence techniques such as machine learning, computer vision, etc.
- A skilled communicator with an ability to work with a global development team
- Ability to build relationships to foster trust, collaboration and a positive environment
- High energy contributor in an agile development environment
- Can be counted on to deliver results with a sense of personal responsibility for expected outcomes
- Strong written and oral presentation skills

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $115,000.00–$165,000.00.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
