This is a full time 40 hour a week position, Rotating schedule including weekends, evenings & holidays
THE POSITION:
The Diagnostic Imaging Ultrasound Assistant or Technician works as a team member in the Diagnostic Imaging department to provide Angell veterinarians, their clients and their client’s pets with high quality patient care in the ultrasound suite and imaging related services.
Some of the duties include:
- Safely handles, transports and restrains patients
- Ability to utilize working knowledge of medical terminology and animal anatomy to correctly understand and interpret imaging requests
- Restrains patients for ultrasound studies
- Maintains order, supplies and cleanliness in the ultrasound suite
- Reviews patient records and makes an appropriate sedation plan for ultrasound studies
- Calculates, draws up and administers IV/IM/SQ sedation
- Maintains study volume on US machine
- Performs troubleshooting of US machine issues
- Understands and practices ALARA radiation safety principals and use of personal radiation safety equipment (lead gloves, gowns, thyroid shields and dosimeter badges)
- Closely monitors the ultrasound schedule in Signature
- Works as A DI Technician or Assistant I when there are no ultrasounds being performed
- Understand basic x-ray physics, image quality control and use of techniques
- Is able to produce AAHA quality radiographs of the thorax, abdomen and tibia independently
- Assist in performing more complex radiology exams including assisting the radiologists with special procedures

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least one year of animal handling experience. Current CVT licensure a plus. Work experience in a fast-paced, multi-veterinary hospital, emergency/referral practice or veterinary teaching hospital preferred.
