Description

The Department of Medicine at the University of Washington is recruiting a new Head for the Division of Cardiology.  The position will be appointed as an Associate or Full Professor and report to the Chair of Medicine, University of Washington, Dr. Barbara Jung.

The Division includes over 200 physicians, trainees, and advanced practice providers and more than 65 staff members.  The Division Head will provide executive and strategic leadership with a strong vision to strengthen and build the Division of Cardiology.  The Division Head will foster continued development of a diverse and collaborative academic community committed to innovation and discovery, expert clinical care, and training future leaders in cardiovascular disease. Fiscal management and sound stewardship of financial resources are crucial aspects of the role.  The Division Head will be expected to support the Division's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Cardiology Division excels in patient care, education, and basic, translational, and clinical research. The Division includes clinical activities, research and education at seven campuses, including the Montlake and Northwest campuses of the University of Washington Medical Center (a quaternary referral center for the five-state Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho [WWAMI] region), Harborview Medical Center (a safety net hospital and the level-1 trauma center for the WWAMI region), UW South Lake Union, Eastside Specialty Clinic, Mountlake Terrace Cardiology Clinic, and VA Puget Sound Medical Center.  The Division collaborates as part of the UW Medicine Heart Institute, an integrated patient-focused clinical service line which includes Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Anesthesiology.  As the resource for the most complex cardiac patients in the WWAMI region, the Heart Institute provides comprehensive care in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant, Interventional Cardiology including complex high-risk coronary interventions and structural heart therapies, Electrophysiology including complex ablations and device management, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.  There are also specialized clinics in Cardio-Oncology, Cardiac Genetics, Cardio-Obstetrics, and Sports Cardiology.

The Division is actively involved in research with over $14 million in direct research funding annually, spanning basic discovery to clinical trials, epidemiology, and implementation science.  Research centers include the Center for Cardiovascular Biology, the Heart Regeneration Program, the Cardiovascular Health Research Unit, the Center for Cardiovascular Innovation, the cardiovascular program at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the Global Cardiovascular Health Program (joint with the Department of Global Health), and the Clinical Trials Unit.

Division faculty are actively involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education with ACGME-accredited programs in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, heart failure and cardiac transplantation, and adult congenital heart disease (a joint program shared with Seattle Children’s Hospital).  There are non-ACGME advanced training programs in structural interventional cardiology, complex coronary intervention, and echocardiography.

Appointment to the full-time faculty would be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (with tenure). Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is not later than January 2025.

The base salary range for this position will be $19,166-$33,334 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement (ADS) and incentive through UW Physicians practice plan.
