Position Summary

This role will be critical to the development of our Fisher BioServices Accounts Payable operating procedures and work instructions. The right candidate will be a liaison between the Manager of Accounting and the Accounts Payable team members to ensure we are adhering to internal Thermo Fisher Scientific cost accounting principles as well as GAAP. This position will work cross-functionally to coach and train other groups in the organization where processes impact Accounts Payable. As necessary, this position will also act as a working lead to ensure timely processing of all invoices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop accounts payable team as well as succession planning

  • Develop metric-based reporting to ensure continued process improvement

  • Suggest/present and execute opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Coordinate AP workflow/make suggestions for better efficiencies in department.

  • Assist team with processing of invoices where necessary.

  • Lead AP Projects to drive efficiencies and improve throughput on processing invoices.

  • Evaluate all invoices to ensure proper documentation and approval prior to fulfillment of payment.

  • Routing documents for approval, filing and updating of records

  • Ownership of month end close and account reconciliations (includes Intercompany reconciliations and monthly accruals) as related to accounts payable

  • Support AOP process with reporting and suggested budgeting for cost centers and other areas

  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of new and existing vendors

  • Provide audit support (including preparing reconciliations/reports)

  • Preparing and processing accounts payable electronic payments through system, verifying accuracy and rectifying any issues.

  • Resolve both external vendor and internal customer inquiries and discrepancies.

  • Maintain electronic filing of documents and confirm consistency of naming convention

  • Process and post accounts payable invoices ensuring vendors are paid on time and discounts, if any, are taken

  • Resolve and process disputed invoices.  Includes issue resolution for direct reports as necessary.

  • Guarantee all vendor accounts are handled precisely and ensure accurate and complete

  • information is recorded.

  • Establish SOPs with Buyers to enhance receiving process & ensure timely cost recognition.

  • Understand and maintain GAAP requirements around A/P

  • Other ad-hoc projects/reports as needed.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or other relevant background

Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Solid supervisory skills

  • Ability to respond, engage and drive results

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Excellent skills with MS Excel, PowerBi, and MS PowerPoint are required; skills with Data Warehouse, Oracle, COGNOS, are preferred.

  • Candidate will demonstrate experience in the following areas: financial reporting, internal control, forecasting, analysis, financial modeling, and technical accounting knowledge.
