Company Description
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
We started with a simple and elegant Reader that turns any phone or tablet into a mobile point of sale. Since then, we have expanded our hardware footprint to meet the needs of more sellers. Most recently, we introduced our first Android-based solutions: Square Register, the first fully integrated point of sale that enables people to start selling right out of the box, and Square Terminal, the all-in-one device for payments and receipts. In this role, you will ensure our sellers and their customers have a remarkable experience by defining and evolving our device software validation strategy for our Square hardware products.
You will:
Determine when our product software is good enough for our sellers by using your knowledge of product architecture and evaluate product risk during each phase of development, deployment, and use.
Own the definition and oversee the execution of overall validation strategy, both manual and automated, for the platform software that ships on our hardware devices.
Move up and down the stack and become an expert on how applications, system, and firmware are integrated.
Work across multiple development teams and organizations to influence the software architecture and design with an emphasis on ensuring we can validate all features and functions our sellers need to be successful.
Use your knowledge of the product architecture, software interactions between components and your ability to estimate the severity and probability of an issue to evaluate product risk during each phase of development, deployment and use.
Champion for a remarkable customer experience within product engineering through product and process improvements.
Qualifications
You have:
3-5+ years of verification, validation and/or software engineering experience.
Developed validation strategy for a complex functional area.
Proven a strong aptitude for learning new technologies.
Ability to identify, classify, prioritize and drive closure of issues in multiple products and software releases.
Experience working as a strong partner on a cross-functional team.
Even better:
Experience validating and shipping a successful consumer electronics device.
A high degree of intellectual curiosity, with a knack for devising innovative techniques to discover hardware, firmware and software issues.
Experience and interest in developing a team, strategy and set of practices in the early phase of an organization’s growth
Managed or partnered with contractors.
