Florence, SC / Pharma Services Group

How will you make an impact?

You will join a team of synthetic organic chemists in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical ingredients at the Florence, SC site. Many of our products are already in the market serving patients and we work on a variety of projects for existing and new clients. In this position, you will perform hands-on experimentation and learn knowledge and skills for the process development of pharmaceutical products. We have a fast-paced working environment while keeping a good work-and-life balance.

What will you do?

  • Conduct chemical experiments in the laboratory as guided by a senior staff supervisor
  • Accurately record and report experiments and scientific findings per assigned departmental standards in a timely manner to meet project objectives
  • Consistently meet Thermo Fisher housekeeping standards
  • Implement cGMP procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment within the framework of OSHA, cGMP, safety regulations, and Thermo Fisher SOPs
  • Laboratory personnel will be responsible for disposing of any hazardous waste they generate under Patheon’s Hazardous Waste Training including but not limited to:
    • DHEC and EPA Hazardous Waste requirements
    • Hazardous Waste Satellite Area definition and requirements
    • Hazardous Waste container requirements
    • Hazardous Waste Labeling
    • Emergency Response Plan

How will you get here?

Education and Experience

BS/BA degree in chemistry or life science plus 0-3 years appropriate experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Good knowledge of modern organic chemistry, and synthetic methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of purification techniques such as crystallization and chromatography
  • Good knowledge and understanding of basic instrumental technologies
  • Good problem-solving skills and a logical approach to solving scientific problems
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)

Physical Requirements

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pound pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods. Safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, latex or similar gloves, safety apron, organic respirator occasionally.
