Should have minimum experience of one year in an acute hospital or in surgical floor nursing
Should have leadership qualities and some management experience
Critical care nursing knowledge is essential
Prior Endoscopy experience preferred

Job Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for total patient care through implementation of the nursing process.
Duties
1.Responsible for total patient care and patient teaching
2.Provides nursing care to all patient’s of all ages
Admits and discharges patients to Endoscopy
Conducts an initial and ongoing assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual needs and age group
Recognize risks, problems and complications related to endoscopic procedures and sedation through knowledge of physical assessment
Explain endoscopic procedures and special procedures to patient pre-procedure; give specific instructions about patient care; verify consents
Create a wholesome atmosphere for patients to reduce pre-procedure anxiety through reassurance and emotional support
Recognize drug reactions, intra-procedure, and post-procedure complications; refer to performing endoscopist or to anesthesia personnel
Able to operate and troubleshoot endoscopy equipment. Resolves any problems related to equipment.
Able to operate emergency equipment; check equipment for malfunctions
Follow pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing protocol regarding patient admission and discharge
Teach student nurses, LVNs and techs assigned in the unit
Support the philosophy of the unit and nursing services
Be able to perform, administer and document ordered drugs, treatments, and procedures
Able to secure, label and document procurement of specimen in the Electronic Health Record
Counsel patients post-procedurally; explain post-procedure care instructions related to the procedure, discharge instructions and return visits
Responsible for own staff development by attending in-service programs, also responsible for obtaining CE units applicable to Endoscopy
Must be able to lift, stand without physical restrictions
Takes call as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned
