Qualifications:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; currently registered in the state of California
• Should have minimum experience of one year in an acute hospital or in surgical floor nursing
• Should have leadership qualities and some management experience
• Critical care nursing knowledge is essential
• Prior Endoscopy experience preferred
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
• Must possess a Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation card
• Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
• Moderate Sedation certification required

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for total patient care through implementation of the nursing process.

Duties

1. 1.Responsible for total patient care and patient teaching
2. 2.Provides nursing care to all patient’s of all ages
3. Admits and discharges patients to Endoscopy
4. Conducts an initial and ongoing assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual needs and age group
5. Recognize risks, problems and complications related to endoscopic procedures and sedation through knowledge of physical assessment
6. Explain endoscopic procedures and special procedures to patient pre-procedure; give specific instructions about patient care; verify consents
7. Create a wholesome atmosphere for patients to reduce pre-procedure anxiety through reassurance and emotional support
8. Recognize drug reactions, intra-procedure, and post-procedure complications; refer to performing endoscopist or to anesthesia personnel
9. Able to operate and troubleshoot endoscopy equipment.  Resolves any problems related to equipment.
10. Able to operate emergency equipment; check equipment for malfunctions
11. Follow pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing protocol regarding patient admission and discharge
12. Teach student nurses, LVNs and techs assigned in the unit
13. Support the philosophy of the unit and nursing services
14. Be able to perform, administer and document ordered drugs, treatments, and procedures
15. Able to secure, label and document procurement of specimen in the Electronic Health Record
16. Counsel patients post-procedurally; explain post-procedure care instructions related to the procedure, discharge instructions and return visits
17. Responsible for own staff development by attending in-service programs, also responsible for obtaining CE units applicable to Endoscopy
18. Must be able to lift, stand without physical restrictions
19. Takes call as assigned
20. Performs other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch. Wears personal protective equipment as required.

Generally lifting objects not more than 50 lbs. and/or carrying objects weighing 20 lbs.The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with help.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with help.
