Description

General Summary

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage in the lifting and moving of materials, and machines, while utilizing power and manually operated equipment such as hoists, winches, cranes, etc.
  • Determine proper method of lifting equipment for each assigned project
  • Determine weights and establish CG of items to be lifted
  • Conduct basic loading of heavy lift projects by rigging the crane and equipment and ensuring the proper use of each equipment method
  • Move equipment to and from work areas
  • Specify locations for movement of machinery using knowledge of various methods of sliding, jack and roll, and lifting equipment
  • Perform work in accordance with NAVFAC P-307, USACE EM-385, NAVSEA OP-5 and local instructions
  • Create lift plans using 3D Lift Plan program
  • Operate Hydraulic Boom Mobile, Bridge, Gantry, Semi-Gantry or Monorail Cranes as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Must have two (2) years verifiable crane and rigging experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, Class A, California Driver's License; current DMV printout required
  • Must be able to pass required Navy Crane Center courses
  • NCCCO or equivalent Rigger Level I and TLL certifications
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance
  • Ability to use and knowledge of all tools and equipment that are used by the craft
  • Ability to read and interpret load charts and rigging tables

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions
  • Safety-toed shoes required
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
