Project Engineer – Electrical

Location: Chicago, IL
Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 annually + annual bonus eligibility

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Electrical) to join our team in Chicago. This role is responsible for the planning, integration, and delivery of electrical engineering systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The position involves the design of power, lighting, and fire alarm systems, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior staff.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong technical expertise, proven consulting engineering experience, and the ability to lead projects through all phases while ensuring compliance with codes, quality standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish design criteria, scope, deliverables, and budgets for assigned projects.

  • Lead the design and detailing of electrical engineering systems (power, lighting, fire alarm).

  • Prepare construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Perform and review engineering calculations for accuracy and compliance with design standards.

  • Coordinate with internal design teams and external consultants to ensure integrated project delivery.

  • Conduct field surveys, prepare reports, and support construction administration activities.

  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with contract requirements.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to designers, engineers, and support staff.

  • Maintain compliance with NEC and applicable building codes throughout all phases of design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (electrical emphasis).

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required.

  • 5–7 years of consulting engineering experience.

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software.

  • Expertise in electrical design principles and systems integration.

  • Strong working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and general building codes.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • LEED Accreditation preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 annually, based on experience.
