UFG is currently hiring for a Sr. Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team! The Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter will manage a commercial underwriting territory of approximately $8 million - $14 million. The individual in this role will work hard to attain positive results (premium growth and acceptable loss ratios) through sound risk selection, developing strong relationships with agency personnel, and providing a quality product combined with excellent service. Other responsibilities include serving as a resource mentor, approving risks within your authority, and acting as a resource for training needs.
This position provides a hybrid, in office, or remote work option, but the individual in this role should reside in the state of New Jersey.
Responsibilities:
Underwrite and price new business and renewals by evaluating necessary coverages and determining risk acceptability.
Review applications, MVR’s, Experience Mods, Loss experience, risk control reports, credit reports, and company guidelines for risk acceptability
Review applications, endorsement requests and renewals for limits and coverages requested
Solicit new business and develop a pipeline to source submissions
Develop, analyze, and evaluate information and exposure for highly complex risks.
Properly classify and price the risk using analytical pricing tools and resources
Evaluate change requests. Approve, assign codes and process within underwriting authority
Provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching to Associate Underwriters, Commercial Lines Underwriters, and other team members.
Negotiate with agents on pricing and coverages offered
Provide best in class service to agency partners with timely and professional service
Participate in agency visits to solicit new business, discuss renewal accounts or issues, develop successful relationships with agencies and producers
Manage territory using portfolio management tools and achieve production goals within assigned territory
Collaborate with Marketing as needed to partner on marketing strategy.

Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent degree required; four-year college degree preferred
AU, CPCU, CIC, or comparable designations preferred
Experience:
5+ years commercial lines underwriting experience, with risk evaluation skills and solid insurance contract knowledge
