Job Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing multi-state web based payrolls in the HRIS system; processing cycles include semi-monthly, bi-weekly and weekly payrolls. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the oversight of accurate and timely entry of garnishments, assisting associates with direct deposit changes, processing payment requests and other payroll related entries. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for reconciling time clock imports to ensure an accurate payroll. They must exercise good judgment in the application and interpretation of company policies as they relate to payroll while maintaining compliance with SOX regulations.
Responsibilities
Processes multi-company and multi-state payrolls
Processes off-cycle payrolls for adjustments and special payments
Converses with 3rd Party Processor and oversees the timely and accurate entry of employee garnishments; handles follow up items as needed
Ensures that time system records are reconciled to the payroll system
Responds to issues and requests with a sense of urgency, strives to respond to inquiries within 24 hours, and resolves payment and W-2 related issues in a timely manner
Keep abreast of federal, state, and local tax changes and how they apply at the employee level
Provides auditors with requested information
Provides courteous customer service in a timely manner to employees, management and outside agencies
Audits payroll information each week to verify accuracy and follows processing checklist; make inquiries and corrections as necessary
Maintains payroll records in a secure and systemized fashion
Supports the Payroll Tax Specialist in resolving tax notices, assists with monthly, quarter and year-end reconciliations as requested
Creates and runs a variety of routine and ad-hoc reports as necessary, reviews reports for discrepancies or errors prior to distribution
Assists employees with ESS, including W-4 entries, direct deposit changes, etc.
Reviews payment requests for appropriate approvals and ensure calculations are compliant with regulatory requirements and company policies
Identifies areas of improvement, makes recommendations to Director, and implements agreed upon action plans
Adheres to and promotes the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL

Qualifications
Minimum of 3-5 years of payroll experience preferred
Minimum of 2+ years of payroll processing in a high-volume, multi-state environment
Ultimate Software experience preferred, processing payroll via 3rd party provider is a necessity
Experience dealing with wage attachments
Payroll certification a plus
Working Conditions
