Position Summary

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay brings help, hope and healing to people facing serious life challenges or trauma resulting from sexual assault or abuse, domestic violence, financial distress, substance abuse, medical emergency, suicidal thoughts, emotional or situational problems. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations of Sexual Assault Services. This position reports to the Director of Sexual Assault Services and in his or her absence the Senior Director of Client Services.

Strategic/Transformational Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day medical clinic operations of the Sexual Assault Services program - maintain medical supplies, provide quality assurance of exams and all clinical procedures, and clinically train and supervise nurse examiners. Conducts initial exams and follow up as needed.
  • Involves internal and external stakeholders in the performance quality improvement (PQI) process; reviews data to improve services and determines needed updates to procedures and outcomes.
  • Serves as a consultant to other agencies, as requested, and when approved by supervisor.
  • Provides in-service training to internal and external partners.
  • Transactional/Administrative Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule and oversee performance management of nurse examiners
  • Conduct sexual battery examinations within 120 hours of sexual assault on both males and females age thirteen and older when requested by law enforcement or by victim
  • Provide referrals to evaluate for sexually transmitted diseases
  • Serve as an expert for the criminal justice system in sexual battery prosecutions.
  • Serve as consultant to other agencies as requested and when approved by supervisor
  • Maintain medical supplies at the Sexual Assault Service office(s).
  • Maintain facilities and equipment at the Sexual Assault Service office(s).
  • Coordinate and post call schedules
  • Quality improvement (PQI) process per agency procedure (supervisory chart reviews)
  • Conduct in-service training as applicable
  • Knows and supports best practices identified by the Crisis Center, Council on Accreditation, Florida Council Against Sexual Violence, the Office of the Attorney General, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
  • Assists the Director of Sexual Assault Services and Medical Director with review and maintenance of the Sexual Assault Services policies and procedures manual.
  • Attends agency related meetings, as approved by supervisor.
  • Maintains contact with the Crisis Center of Tampa, Inc. for at least one (1) year after separation of employment and responds to all subpoenas on cases that were examined while employed as the Nurse Manager or Nurse Examiner.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Directly supervise Nurse Examiners. Perform supervisory responsibilities by managing and allocating employee resources in accordance with company policies, applicable laws, and company initiatives/goals. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work (including scheduling); appraising performance; rewarding, coaching, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Act as a change agent and develop a high-performing team in the spirit of exceptional service to all internal and external partners.

Education and Experience

  • Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners License preferred (Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Florida Registered Nurse License with Sexual Assault Nursing and Program Management experience may be considered)
  • SANE A Board Certified preferred (or eligible to become certified within 12 months of hire).
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in one or more of the following:
    • Supervision and administration
    • Gynecology
    • Midwifery
    • Emergency RoomSpecialized training in assessment of the following:
    • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
    • Acute crisis situations
    • Trauma and/or medical situations
    • Gynecological examinations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of methods of gynecological examinations.
    • Knowledge of protocol for collecting evidence and processing specimens.
    • Knowledge of the criminal justice system as pertaining to sex crimes.
    • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communications.
    • Ability to supervise staff.
    • Ability to conduct sexual examinations using accepted method incorporating best practices.
    • Ability to testify in a court room situation.
    • Ability to always maintain an appearance of composure.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Maintains reliable transportation to/from work and between meetings and trainings, when necessary.
    • Complete Advocacy Core Training as required by FCASV within 1 month of hire.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Physical Requirement: The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, walk, and to stand for an extended period while providing exams. The employee must be available to serve on-call and to provide exams on a 75-minute notice. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Performs duties of considerable difficulty requiring a high level of initiative and independent judgment.

Working Conditions: Duties are performed primarily in an office/clinic setting. May be exposed to changing weather conditions when traveling outside the office for meetings or trainings. The noise level is typically quiet.

Travel: Minimal. Travel requiring personal transportation is required between Tampa and Ruskin clinic locations

Hours: Full time, 40hours per week with a variable schedule to meet operational needs, including on call responsibilities after hours and holidays. The Nurse Manager will be limited to one (1) on-call shift per pay period.
