Job Description

The person in this role will be responsible for completing the mechanical portion of large capital projects in support of the Plant Capital execution as well as overall preparation and coordination of the Engineering deliverables for the project. They will assist our engineering team with opportunity/feasibility studies of deployment and development projects in the Mechanical engineering field. They will also execute design studies, follow procurement and fabrication of equipment and manage the installation, commissioning and startup of the equipment in an industrial plant environment.

Mechanical Engineering skills required:

  • Provide Mechanical Engineering design for assigned projects including solid models, mechanical detail drawings, layout drawings, component specification, and bill of material creation
  • Respect Michelin mechanical design standards in all equipment designs.
  • Create Budgetary Estimates and Bid Packages on assigned projects.
  • Create project documentation:  mechanical designs, technical offer, safety risk assessment, maintenance & operator training documents and user manuals.
  • Facilitate the order of equipment and materials for assigned projects.
  • Provide equipment acceptance inspections on equipment that comes into the plant
  • Provide Management of mechanical contractor or maintenance installation teams during equipment modifications & machine installations through Start-up and Commissioning.
  • Interface with Plant production & maintenance customers, other engineers, and suppliers to complete equipment acceptance criteria.
  • Project support, especially during installation, start-up and ramp up phases, is often "on-site" and "hands on", and many projects include implementation schedules during holidays and shutdowns.

Project Management skills required:

  1. Overall coordination of engineering deliverables for a project from all engineering contributors on the project team, to include the following
  2. Engineering estimates including equipment, installation labor, design and startup engineering, travel, and managing project actual cost evolution
  3. Project schedule including design engineering, procurement, installation, startup, qualification
  4. Equipment procurement including specifications for RFQ process, purchase order, tracking supplier progress and managing equipment acceptance at the supplier
  5. Contributing to equipment safety & ergonomic risk assessment evaluation with the receiving plant
  6. Organizing onsite equipment reception, installation, startup, rampup including managing customer acceptance criteria with the receiving plant
  7. Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.   Demonstrated solid teamwork, communication, and planning skills required.   Previous project management experience or team leadership experience is preferred.
  8. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues. Both written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
  • Preferred 5+ years of Engineering Experience
  • Experienced with mechanical design standards ASME, ANSI, ISO, etc
  • Thorough knowledge of 3D-CAD design tools, SolidWorks required, AutoCAD or Draft Sight 2D is a plus.
  • Experience with Dossier document management systems required, Team Center is preferred.
  • Ability to conduct Failure Effect Analysis is a plus.
  • Knowledge of bearing theory, shaft theory, motor & gearbox sizing, Geometric Dimensioning and tolerancing, Material properties, and design for manufacturability is highly preferred.
  • Experience in recognizing and protecting against machine hazards during the design process.
  • Managing correction of equipment non-conformities and acceptance.
  • Robotic experience, configuration or knowledge is preferred, but not required.  Specific experience with Fanuc and Yaskawa is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in selecting the primary movers for equipment based on the desired functionality.
