Covia is looking for an Industrial Designer who will have a positive impact on the Engineering team at its Utica, Illinois location.  As an Industrial Designer, you will conduct the layout and fabrication of equipment based on drawings. Develop required materials list for generating a purchase order. Drill, cut, grind, and weld to match drawing requirements and use hand tools required for assembly of equipment. Additionally, designers will execute field assembly of equipment requiring millwright and ironworking skills.  Maintenance related tasks are also performed in the field.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Will report directly to the Fabrication Manager for day-to-day tasks.
  • Will support the Fabrication Shop as well as the Utica Facility and Grounds.
  • Conduct the layout and fabrication of equipment based on drawings.
  • Drill, cut, grind, and weld to match drawing requirements and use hand tools required for assembly of equipment.
  • Mobile Equipment Usage Required, Training will be provided.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings.
  • MSHA Training and Certification required annually.
  • Field assembly of equipment.
  • Maximum 30% Travel.

 

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highly skilled in design and fabrication using various materials.
  • Expert welder using stick and MIG methods
  • Proficient using Oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting methods
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Material layout
  • Pipefitting – steel and HDPE
  • Layout of projects including using fractions, decimals, geometry
  • Proficient in methods required for plant maintenance
  • Competent in a field work environment
  • Self-starter
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft programs
