Eliot's Family Networks Service is currently seeking a Education Coordinator to collaborate with school districts and families to ensure that youth eligible for special education are identified, evaluated, and receive appropriate services. Work with Local Education Authorities (LEAs) to negotiate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for children involved with the Department of Children and Families.

The Ideal candidate will have significant experience in working with school systems, particularly Chapter 688 and 766 cases.They also be able to work collaboratively and effectively with providers and within systems. Knowledge of social systems, available services, McKinney-Vento Education Act, community supports and educational laws and regulations is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with schools and Local Education Authorities (LEAs). 
  • Negotiate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with schools and LEAs for children involved with the Department of Children and Families.
  • Collect educational records as necessary.
  • Assist with re-entry from out of home placement and placement decisions.
  • Ensure that children’s educational rights are supported through LEAs.
  • Attend Family Team Meetings and assist team members in treatment planning related to education matters.
  • Ensure communication with DCF Social Workers.
  • Maintain records and submit reports and documentation that are complete and timely.
  • Adhere to state and local education guidelines, Agency policies and DCF protocol.
  • Provide case management, consultation, and support for all education-related issues for all children/youth involved with DCF.
  • Actively advocate for and consult with social workers and educators on interventions for any youth experiencing academic or disciplinary problems.
  • Collaborate with school districts and families to ensure that youth eligible for special education are identified, evaluated, and receive appropriate services based on a determination of the TEAM evaluation and the development of the IEP, in the least restrictive setting.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and mediations, monitor services on IEP, and negotiate cost-share agreements with LEAs for placement and other needs when necessary or appropriate.
  • Provide continued training to area office staff and other agencies on education related issues, laws, updated policies, and school culture.
  • Conduct trainings to LEA/school systems on systems practice, program, descriptions, and DCF policies.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Compensation: $55,000 annually
