Job Description

*Florida certification is required*

Position Overview:

The Math Coach is a year-round, certified, school-based position that is responsible for coaching their school’s 4th-8th grade teachers in math education. They observe, give feedback, model lessons, and support their caseload of teachers. The projected caseload would be 5 teachers in 4th - 8th grade. They would also collaborate with the Manager of the Baker Teaching Fellowship and the Managers of our Aspiring Teachers Program to support any fellows or guest educators in these math positions. This coach would also collaborate with school-based administrators who evaluate teachers, in addition to partnering with any other teachers that help support middle grades mathematics, including learning specialists or interventionists. The Math Coach will also lead professional development for teachers and collaborate with peers and the academic team across the region. In the event a teacher is out, the coach may be asked to lead math instruction or model key lessons and must be certified to support students if needed. This position reports to the principal.

Success in this role is measured by positively impacting math data for their school and for teacher retention of the teachers they coach.

As a school-based leader, this position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their school leader. Typical hours for school-based leaders are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 Monday through Friday and there may be occasional meetings, special school events, or commitments that fall outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

This position is funded by Title 1 resources.

Specific Position Duties:

  • Own the middle grades math content teams in collaboration with the regional academic team

  • Conduct walk-throughs specifically focused on urgent academic monitoring and respond to observation data in the moment through real time coaching.

  • Pull grade-level or school-level trends in data and adjust instruction and coaching accordingly

  • Track all data, including data meetings, lesson planning feedback, and observation feedback in the regional performance platform

  • In the event a teacher needs additional support in classroom culture to better achieve math goals, the coach would collaborate with a school-based administrator on support for classroom management routines and procedures that support math instruction

  • Own their own professional development and growth by leveraging lifelines within the region and the broader KIPP network, asking for and implementing feedback weekly, and pursuing additional professional development and growth opportunities both within and outside the region.

  • Establish and uphold school culture norms and hold teachers and scholars accountable to norms and expectations, both in classrooms and in shared spaces.

  • Embody mindsets that work towards equity for our scholars and staff and model person-first thinking and the ability to have discussions about identity (race, gender, ethnicity, etc.)

  • Work with the school-based leadership team to accomplish the school’s goals

  • Knowledge of best practices and instruction of middle grades math to lead professional development

  • Other duties as outlined by school or regional leadership teams

Compensation:

  • The salary for this position is $53,000.

  • Free individual level health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision

  • Free individual short-term and long-term disability insurance

  • 403(b) retirement program with a company match

  • To support professional practice and growth, all teachers and coaches receive individualized coaching and professional development

  • *The salary offered in the DocuSign doesn’t include any stipends for which the candidate may be eligible. In our first year of paying out millage stipends, certified New-to-KIPP instructional staff received an additional $7,000+. There are other opportunities to earn money at KIPP Jax in the form of additional stipends.

***Offerings are subject to change each school year. Terms would be outlined in an offer letter, if issued.
