Manufacturing Automation Engineer

The Manufacturing Automation Engineer is a hands-on technical expert responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes through automation. This individual will collect and analyze operational data, design and implement new equipment, and lead projects to improve efficiency and productivity at Vollrath. This is an individual contributor role that requires strong technical expertise and a high degree of creativity.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily support to Operations, ensuring automation equipment runs at optimal efficiency.
  • Program and troubleshoot robotics, CNC, and PLC applications.
  • Design, develop, and supervise the installation of electrical control systems and automated machinery.
  • Train maintenance staff and operators on automation programs and create necessary work instructions.
  • Establish technical specifications and safety measures for all automation equipment.
  • Identify and justify opportunities for profit improvement through automation.
  • Lead and facilitate small to medium-sized capital projects and lean events.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to a wide variety of complex assignments.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all automation hardware and software.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on automation equipment.

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering) is preferred. Candidates with demonstrated experience in automation can be considered in lieu of a degree.

Required Skills:

  • Solid technical skills in the field of automation.
  • Experience with robotics, CNC, and PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Ability to gather data, build a business case, and present recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project organization and leadership skills.
  • Self-starter with a "sense of urgency."
  • Ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Familiarity with industrial engineering concepts (e.g., work measurement, material flow).
