General Summary: Performs nursing care under the supervision of providers and clinical services manager.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples. Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
  2. Provides basic patient care as ordered. Administers medications and treatments as directed.
  3. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures.
  4. Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, and test results in medical records.
  1. Provides patient education materials, communicates provider advice/instructions at time of discharge.
  1. Provides leadership, direction, and support to medical assistants and LVNs on the issues of outpatient care, medications, or scheduling.
  2. If certified, may start IVs and assist with other patient procedures as requested by providers.
  1. Works independently, maintains schedule of patients.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved practical nursing program required.  Must be a Practical Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, with a minimum of one year of LVN experience.  Experience in a clinical setting preferred.  Experience with performing Intravenous Therapy preferred.  Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred.  Must be CPR and AED certified.  Must keep all licenses and certifications current and in good standing as initial and continued employment is contingent upon these credentials. 

Other Requirements: Must maintain current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis). Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.  Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Work Environment: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic setting. Employee Exposure Determination:  Category I:  Jobs with tasks that routinely involve exposure or potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
