The Registered Nurse Manager is responsible for the provision of patient care for their respective departments and units. Works to coordinate care with care providers using evidenced based practice to ensure positive patient outcomes. Responsible for departmental staffing, budgeting and adherence to the safety and quality initiatives set forth by hospital administration. Responsible for working with administration for future growth within the department.

  • Provides overall direction and leadership for the provision of safe, effective and cost efficient patient care within the service area.
  • Accountable for departmental outcomes and 24/7 operations of the department.
  • Provides tactical and strategic leadership including programmatic growth & development, implementation of new services and optimization of current operations.
  • Establishes the service line vision and goals in collaboration with Administration, Medical Staff and the multidisciplinary clinical care team.
  • Coordinates action plans and outcomes monitoring consistent with the overall strategic goals and imperatives.
  • Applies clinical and operational management skills to meet the established quality, patient satisfaction, and financial/operational goals of the department.
  • Manages and directs patient care.
  • Monitors safety of care including the administration of prescribed medication.
  • Monitors clinical documentation in the medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy and compliance with hospital and program standards.
  • Monitors the nursing process utilization, ensuring timely completion of the nursing assessment and care plans as well as appropriateness of content.
  • Ensures completion of patient’s multidisciplinary treatment plans.
  • Ensures adequate staffing for patient needs on a daily basis. Schedules staff based on patient acuity and defined staffing patterns.
  • Monitors multidisciplinary team scope of practice, productivity of staff, use of time and the amount of work assigned. Ensures that the productivity and staff work support the overall operational goals of the department.
  • Manages selection and employment of staff for area supervised.
  • Fosters employee participation, satisfaction and organizational commitment. Promotes the professional development of staff.
  • Directs personnel management of the Service Line consistent with Nursing Division and Hospital philosophy, goals and policies.
  • Maintains safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Ensures practice that is ethical and in accordance with current practice standards.
  • Establishes and insures implementation of standards of safety and risk management for the departments.
  • Develops departmental staffing, revenue and expense budgets and assumes direct responsibility for daily monitoring of labor and non-labor resources including responding to changes in the department business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Monitors patient and family satisfaction for quality of services rendered. Investigates and takes appropriate action regarding complaints with patient care or other services.
  • Ensures patient needs are resolved through use of multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Monitors supplies/equipment, ordering/repairing as required to ensure the quality of care and operational standard are maintained.
  • Ensures cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and forms.
  • All other duties assigned by department.

Preferences:
MSN or Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration


Required:
BSN or active enrollment in an accredited BSN program

2 years of Nursing Management/Charge Nurse or Proven Leadership Skills

5 years of Emergency Department experience
