Opportunity -  The Village of Richfield is currently seeking applications for a full-time Mechanic for the Department of Public Works Department. Under the general direction of, and in cooperation with the Public Works Supervisor, this position will perform routine repair and maintenance to the Village’s fleet of modern trucks, vehicles and equipment supporting the efficient operation of the municipal Highway and Parks Systems and Fire Department. This individual must be able to perform a variety of routine and general maintenance repairs and laborious activities year-round as needed. Additional hours shall be required during snow and ice control operations as well as for other events and projects, as needed.

This individual works closely with the Village’s Public Works Supervisor and Staff to ensure that outstanding citizen service is provided throughout our community. There is frequent interaction with a variety of people, including co-workers, elected officials, other professionals and members of the public.

Minimum requirements - This individual must have experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining large diesel trucks/snowplow trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, trucks, cars, heavy equipment, lawn mowers, small engines and other equipment. The ideal candidate will also have experience welding and fabricating to assist in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of vehicles. General knowledge operating heavy and light equipment; have the ability to work safely and help perpetuate a safe work environment; effectively use tools and operate other miscellaneous equipment utilized in highway and parks; effectively communicate in both oral and written forms; understand and carry out oral and written direction in an independent manner or team setting; perform physical tasks involving frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of weights up to and exceeding 50lbs; drive an automobile, truck, tractor, front-end loader, snowplow with wing; climb ladders; hear and distinguish various sounds, such as voices of co-workers in noisy environments, cell phone, etc.; work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; hold a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement at a minimum or have the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days. Must have strong desire to be an important contributor independently as well as in a Team environment. Applicant must also strive to provide Village services in the most efficient, effective and economical manner possible.

Compensation & Benefits - The position is a non-represented position.  The starting hourly rate is DOQ.  Eligibility for further increases usually occurs on an annual basis with budgetary approval. The Village of Richfield also provides a comprehensive and generous benefit package, including health insurance, Wisconsin Retirement System, Social Security, vacation and a personal day each month.
