To supervise and perform journeyman level installation, maintenance and repair of domestic and commercial plumbing and similar supply/drain systems and perform related work as prescribed by supervisor.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Analyze and repair all plumbing problems at College facilities on and off campus including sewage systems, roof drains, wet side of HVAC systems (water lines, water coils, pumps, and mixing valves)
  • Plan and install in-house plumbing projects, irrigation pumping systems, irrigation mainlines and headers
  • Organize and prioritize assignments and projects. Assign and follow up on daily work orders
  • Set up and performs systematic preventative plumbing maintenance program
  • Install gas piping, HVAC pumps and control valves
  • Maintain a working stock of common plumbing repair items such as fittings, valves, washers, pipe, and gaskets
  • Recommend changes or improvements to systems
  • Assist and work with engineers, architects, and contractors as necessary for new equipment and system design and installation. Observe construction of plumbing projects, ensuring specifications and industry standards are met
  • Review bids and prices of jobs when requested
  • Coordinate work with others and contractors as necessary
  • Test all College backflow preventers
  • Keep plumbing shop and truck clean and orderly
  • Practice and promote on-the-job safety procedures
  • Exhibit and model professional workplace behavior to be expected from a supervisor
  • Train others as helpers or apprentices in compliance with codes
  • Maintain level of training necessary to uphold licensing and familiarity with plumbing code
  • Maintain maintenance manuals for equipment under responsibility
  • Some night and off-duty callbacks are involved
  • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with colleagues, staff, students and administrators
  • Possible supervisory responsibilities if a plumber's helper/apprentice is employed
  • Perform additional duties as the need arises or as directed by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing design, installation and codes.
  • Must possess an Idaho Plumbing Journeyman license.
  • Must possess or obtain a backflow prevention certification within 1 year.
  • Must possess mechanical and analytical abilities.
  • Working knowledge of blueprint reading and specification reading/writing.
  • Possess skills in dealing courteously and effectively with other CSI employees, students, the public, and contractors.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Potential zero premium cost for employee health care benefits, including Medical, Dental and Vision, valued at $9,752 per year.  Retirement plan with a total contribution of 19.10% per month.  The employee must contribute 7.16% of gross pay and CSI matches 11.94%.  

The College will also waive tuition for all CSI classes as well as having reciprocal agreements with universities for discounted tuition.
